# Adding devices

Devices can be added to eAuditor in several ways. The chosen method depends on the device type and how it should be registered in the system.

### Select how to add the device

| Method                  | When to use                                                                                                     |
| ----------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Manual addition** | When you want to add a single device yourself and enter its details. |
| **Automatic detection** | When the device is to be detected automatically by the eAgent service after it is connected to the workstation. |
| **Device import** | When you want to add devices based on data prepared in a file. |

{% hint style="info" %}
The method used to add a device affects the scope of information available later in eAuditor Cloud. Not all device types can be detected automatically.
{% endhint %}

### Manually add device

Manual addition allows you to register a device without requiring it to be automatically detected by the system.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Open the Devices view

Go to **IT Infrastructure > Devices**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Select Add new

Click **Add new**, and then select the option to add the device manually.

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Enter device details

Complete the information for the device being added.

The range of available fields depends on the device type and the information you want to store in the system.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="https://3262380731-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fdzip3GyvGq5q5J3qckWN%2Fuploads%2F3D7h9LqYYyY35nxzLNEE%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=e350252a-1432-44b1-8b03-1afcdd2ab511" alt="Formularz ręcznego dodawania urządzenia" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Save the device

Review the entered information and submit the form.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

After the device is saved successfully, it will appear in the view **IT Infrastructure > Devices**.

{% hint style="info" %}
After adding the device, you can complete its information, change its assignment, and go to the Detail Card.
{% endhint %}

### Automatic device detection

Some devices can be registered in eAuditor automatically.

This applies, among others, to USB devices connected to computers with the eAgent service installed.

For USB devices to be detected, configure the appropriate DLP policy using the event **USB device connected**.

#### How do I enable USB device detection?

1. Go to the DLP policy configuration.
2. Create or edit the appropriate policy.
3. Configure support for the event **USB device connected**.
4. Assign the policy to the relevant computers or groups.
5. Save and deploy the configuration.

The detailed configuration method is described in a separate article.

**Learn more -** [**USB device connected**](/eacloud-docs-en/features/data-loss-prevention-1.md)

{% hint style="warning" %}
The mere presence of the **eAgent** service on a computer does not mean that every connected device will be registered automatically. It is necessary to configure the appropriate monitoring mechanism in advance.
{% endhint %}

### Device import

Import allows you to add devices based on data prepared in a file.

This means you do not have to enter each device manually.

<figure><img src="https://3262380731-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2Fdzip3GyvGq5q5J3qckWN%2Fuploads%2FPQHt9L7MiWgks26eK022%2Fimage.png?alt=media&amp;token=bf1848fe-a6f6-49a6-9669-a1cd884a7776" alt="Opcja importu urządzeń" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

{% hint style="warning" %}
Feature **Device import** is currently under development. If it is not yet available in your version of eAuditor Cloud, use manual addition or the available automatic detection mechanisms.
{% endhint %}

### What happens after a device is added?

A properly registered device will appear in the view **IT Infrastructure > Devices**.

Then you can:

* open its **Detail Card**,
* check the available information,
* change or supplement the data,
* assign the device,
* check its relationships with other infrastructure elements,
* perform the available administrative operations.

### Frequently Asked Questions

<details>

<summary><strong>Can I add a device manually?</strong></summary>

Yes. Go to **IT Infrastructure > Devices**, select **Add new** and complete the device details.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Can devices be added automatically?</strong></summary>

Yes, for selected device types and properly configured system mechanisms.

An example is USB devices, which can be detected within a properly configured DLP policy.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Why did the connected USB device not appear in the system?</strong></summary>

Check whether the **eAgent** service is running on the computer and whether the appropriate DLP policy supporting the event has been configured and deployed **USB device connected**.

If the configuration is correct and the device is still not visible, go to the [**Troubleshooting**](/eacloud-docs-en/features/it-infrastructure/devices/troubleshooting.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Is eAgent alone enough for automatic USB device detection?</strong></summary>

No. It is also necessary to configure the appropriate monitoring mechanism, e.g. a DLP policy for connected USB devices. Go to [data loss prevention](/eacloud-docs-en/features/data-loss-prevention-1.md).

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Can I import multiple devices at once?</strong></summary>

The device import mechanism is under development. If the import option is not available in your version of the system, you can add devices manually or use the available automatic detection mechanisms.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Where will I find the device after adding it?</strong></summary>

The device will be available in the **IT Infrastructure > Devices**. Click its name to go to the **Detail Card**.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Can I change the device data after adding it?</strong></summary>

Yes. You can later edit device information using the available operations.

The detailed procedure is described in the article [**Device Management**.](/eacloud-docs-en/features/it-infrastructure/devices/device-management.md)

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://eaclouddoc.eauditor.eu/eacloud-docs-en/features/it-infrastructure/devices/adding-devices.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
